Toubab Krewe

Toubab Krewe      In December of 2008 my wife & I escaped the cold midwest winter to Jamaica, spending the final 4 days of our trip at the Caribbean Holidaze festival. I had never heard of Toubab Krewe, but I found their name amusing (toubab is a West African term for "white person"), and my wife was familiar with them, so we took a bus to the Hedonism III resort to catch their show. The show was excellent, an eclectic instrumental fusion of traditional Mali music with a western jam-band mentality.

Among all the African instruments on stage is Drew Heller's African themed 4-string cigar box guitar. David Pransky (bass & mandolin) also owns a 3-string cigar box bass. Both were built by Mike Orr at Built2Last.
